What is the origin of the Salty Dog?
By Forinfos - 29/09/2025 - 0 comments
The Salty Dog was invented by George Jessel, the mixologist who also invented the Bloody Mary cocktail. Jessel created the salty dog in the 1950s.
The Salty Dog is made of vodka and grapefruit juice. The cocktail is strong and has a bitter taste to it, as it is made from 40 ml of vodka for every 100 ml of grapefruit juice. A little salt is added to the drink before it is served, and it is also common to salt the rim of the glass in which the Salty Dog is served. The cocktail can also be served with a cherry or a lime wedge for garnish.
