What does an oriole sound like?

The Audubon Society describes the sound of an oriole as a clear and flute-like whistled single or double note in short, distinct phrases with much individual variation. The female song tends to be less patterned than the male's, while long calls of a "dee-dee-dee" sound are likely from young birds.

Considered one of the most colorful and vocal backyard birds in North America, the oriole makes a rich whistling sound commonly heard from treetops near homes and parks at the first arrival of spring, especially along the East Coast. A favorite among birdwatchers, they are easily drawn to feeders with fruit, jellies, peanut butter or suet.
