What does a zebra sound like?

When trying to locate another zebra, zebras make a high-pitched noise that sounds similar to a barking dog. When looking for a mate, zebras bray much like a donkey does. Zebras can also make snorting and whickering noises like a horse.

Zebras are closely related to horses. Zebras and horses look and act in ways that are very similar to each other. Both zebras and horses use a loud call to try to locate missing herd members. Horses neigh, and zebras bark and bray. Unless they are looking for others, equines such as horses and zebras are usually very quiet and communicate primarily through body language.
