The Kroger's supermarket chain is owned by The Kroger Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company was founded by Barney Kroger in 1883. As of 2015, it has more than 2,600 stores in 34 states and Washington, D.C.
Along with its namesake supermarkets, Kroger operates 40 food processing plants which provide its stores with grocery items under the Kroger's brand. The company estimates that store brands account for 26 percent of its grocery sales.
Kroger reported more than $108 billion in gross revenue in 2014. The amount includes sales within Dillon, a Kansas-based company acquired in 1983, and Fred Meyer, which Kroger purchased in 1999.
