According to BabyCenter, a bag needs to be packed by the 36th week of pregnancy. Two bags in some cases are necessary: one for labor and one for after labor. It’s best to be prepared, even for those who don’t intend on having a hospital birth.
A labor bag must to be filled with all the essential items to make the time more relaxed. This includes a dressing gown, socks, lip balm, hair bands, pillows, snacks, reading material and any medical notes. After the labor, necessities include toiletries, a going-home outfit, maternity pads, a nursing bra and comfortable, yet disposable underwear. BabyCenter says in case of a cesarean larger sized underwear will not disturb the wound.
