There is not one specific pain medication that works best for people with reflex sympathetic dystrophy or complex regional pain syndrome. Most suffers of this disease use a combination of prescription drugs to receive the most relief from the painful symptoms, explains the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care.

Doctors most commonly prescribe corticosteroids, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, anti-inflammatory drugs, calcitonin or opioids for patients suffering with RSD, also called CRPS, according to the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care. In many cases, patients combine medications in a variety of dosages and combinations to find one that offers them the most pain relief available before turning to something more invasive.
