CTE is the acronym for a medical condition known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, says WebMD. This condition typically occurs in individuals who have been diagnosed with multiple concussions rather than in individuals who have only had one brain injury.
Complications caused by CTE can occur shortly after a concussion, but some patients do not develop CTE until several years after a brain injury, states MedicineNet. CTE begins with mild symptoms, such as dizziness and confusion, but behavior becomes erratic and aggressive, with patients exhibiting severe depression and dementia-like disorientation. Symptoms become progressively worse. As of November 2014, there is no cure for CTE.
