What is a painless hematuria?

Hematuria describes a painless condition in which the kidneys or different parts of the urinary tract enable blood cells to drain into the urine, explains Mayo Clinic. The result is the discharge of urine that may appear pink, red or cola-colored.
Common causes of the condition include urinary tract infections, bladder or kidney stones, enlarged prostate, kidney infections and various cancers and diseases of the kidney, states Mayo Clinic. Patients should contact their physician immediately at the presence of blood in the urine. Treatment for hematuria is focused on the underlying trigger, as it is a symptom and not a particular condition, explains WebMD.
