"Metamorphosis of Narcissus," painted by surrealist Salvador Dali and presented in 1937, represents his version of Ovid's story of Echo and Narcissus. It hangs in the Tate Gallery in London, England, according to cornellcollege.edu.
The painting includes the figure of Narcissus seated in a pool of water, another figure holding what appears to be an egg, a third figure also interpreted to be Narcissus and naked dancers in the background. The original exhibit of the painting included a poem composed by Dali. Dali commonly used symbolism and color in his paintings to express emotion. The separate figures of Narcissus in the work represent the transition in her life from passion to death.
