The Archies, a fictional band, originally recorded "Sugar, Sugar" for the television series "The Archie Show" in 1969. Jeff Barry and Andy Kim wrote the song. In 1970, R&B singer Wilson Pickett created a cover of the song, which made it to the Billboard top 100.
"Sugar, Sugar" stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of 22 weeks, and Billboard currently lists the song at number 73 on its Greatest Songs of All Time. In 2004, American rapper Nitty created a version of the song entitled "Nasty Girl," which followed a similar chorus to the original. Nitty's rendition of the song replaced the words "candy girl" from the original song with "nasty girl."
