The number one hit "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies was written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim. The song spent four weeks atop the "Billboard Hot 100" list in 1969.

"Sugar, Sugar" knocked a real rock and roll band, the Rolling Stones, out of the top spot when it replaced "Honky Tonk Women" at number one.

The Archies were a fictitious band of studio musicians created for the Saturday morning animated show based on the "Archie" comic strip. Singer Ron Dante was the voice used on the "Sugar, Sugar" recording. He did a lot of demo work for producer Don Kirshner, and he agreed to sing on the Archies sessions for scale.
