Who painted "The Scream"?

Edvard Munch painted "The Scream." Between 1893 and 1910, Munch made four versions of this classic work, whose full title is "The Scream of Nature."

Two versions of "The Scream" are paintings, while two are pastels. Munch also made a lithograph stone of the image in 1895, printing around four dozen prints. Edvard Munch originally intended "The Scream" to be a part of a series called the "Frieze of Life" that investigated the themes of love, angst and death in modern life. One of the most famous Norwegian painters, Munch employed the stylistic and psychological vocabulary of 19th-century Symbolism to pave the way for Expressionism in the 20th century.
