"Starry Night" is a painting by the artist Vincent Van Gogh. It was painted in June 1889 during Van Gogh's stay at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Remy, France. It is Van Gogh's best-know work. Since 1941, it has been on display at the Museum of Modern art in New York.
Vincent Van Gogh was a post-impressionist Dutch painter. He created over 2,100 works during his career, including still lifes, self portraits and landscapes. Van Gogh was born in 1853 in Zundert, Netherlands, and died in 1890 at age 37 from a gunshot wound. His death is generally accepted as a suicide.
