Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti recorded and released "O Holy Night," his album of Christmas hymns and carols, in 1976. The album was later released on compact disc in 1994.
Although renowned operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti began studying music in the 1950s, he won enormous crossover success in the 1980s and 1990s due to his media appearances, televised concerts and charity work. "O Holy Night," which became Pavarotti's first platinum album, marked the onset of his foray into more accessible and popular music. The collection of traditional Christmas and Catholic hymns includes selections like "O Holy Night," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and Schubert's version of "Ave Maria."
