Traditionally, a bridal shower is organized and planned by the maid-of-honor for a bride-to-be. Whoever is hosting the party is responsible for the expense. If the maid-of-honor is hosting the party, she may pay for the celebration herself or share the cost with the bridesmaids or the bride-to-be's family.

Bridal showers are usually held about two months before a wedding. If the bridal shower is planned as a surprise party, wedding planners advise choosing a time that accommodates the bride-to-be's schedule. The party can be held for the bride-to-be or for the wedding couple.

Typically, if the maid-of-honor is hosting the party, she obtains help from the bridesmaids when organizing the event. The family of the bride-to-be may also participate. Expenses can be kept low by using handmade

decorations and holding the party at the maid-of-honor's home. In some instances, hosts obtain the advice of a party planner if they are organizing a larger event.
