PBA stands for Professional Bowlers Association, the major sanctioning body for the sport of professional ten-pin bowling in the United States. As of 2015, the PBA consists of over 4,300 members representing 13 countries.
The PBA was founded in 1958 by 33 charter members and is recognized as the "major league" of bowling. In 2000, three members of Microsoft purchased the PBA in hopes of globalizing the sport and expanding opportunities for its members. The PBA Tour, an annual calendar of bowling events, runs from September to April each year, with some events broadcast on national television. There is also a Women's PBA Tour.
