Peafowl come from three different regions in the world: the Indian peafowl comes from India and Sri Lanka, the green peafowl comes from Myanmar and Java and the Congo peafowl comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Peacock is the name given to the male peafowl while female peafowls are called peahens.
It is the peacock that has the famous tail feathers, which grow as the peacock gets older. The tail feathers are called the train and it is used during courtship with peacocks strutting and showing off its feathers as peahens pass. The Congo peacock is an endangered species and has not been seen since 1982, and was not even known about until 1936.
