During the mating season, the male peacocks use their colorful feathers to attract the female peahens. The males use their feathers to form a large train that is then maneuvered in courtship displays. The peahens choose peacocks depending on the color, size and quality of the feather trains.
Peacocks establish small territories in an arrangement known as a lek. They start their courtship displays by shaking their feathers to produce a rattling sound and spreading the tails in a colorful fan shape. A peahen walks through the several different territories of peacocks, examining the feathers on display, before choosing a mate.
