When do pear trees blossom?

Pear trees blossom twice a year, in the summer and in the fall. They blossom best when the fruit tree has full sun and is planted in sandy or loamy soil.

Pears are ready to harvest when they have fully blossomed but still feel hard to the touch. Ripen them by placing them at room temperature, or place them in the refrigerator to help them last up to a week after harvesting. Pears last up to two months if kept in a sealed container that is in a cool, dark place. Pear trees blossom best when cross-pollinated, which means planting two different varieties of pear trees near each other. Plant the trees up to 25 feet apart for regular trees or 15 feet apart for dwarf trees.
