People are attracted to a submissive lifestyle for multiple reasons, including religious beliefs and coping mechanisms they have learned for living over the years. To cope with relationship issues, which are normal, submissive people give others space to do things their way and submit to their desires.

In many religions, humility and submission are desired attributes for living a good life that is beneficial for the doer and those around them. Also, in their personal relationships, people act submissive when not smothering a partner, controlling only what they can do themselves and not forcing their own will on the other.
