Why do people bury the dead?

A dead person's body is buried as a way of treating it with reverence and showing last respect. The human body is considered sacred and holy and cannot be tossed away.
After the demise of a loved one, the bereaved ensure that the body is buried according to their faith. Christians believe that Jesus' body was treated with care and respect before being placed in the tomb, so they believe the same should be done to the dead. Typically, human beings practice burial to show respect for the dead. However, it is not a public health requirement. The World Health Organization advises that only corpses with serious infections must be buried.
