Do people live in the tundra?

People live in the tundra, but large population oscillations often occur because of the extreme cold. According to the Arctic Human Development Report, about 4 million people live in the arctic areas.

The tundra is the coldest of the biomes on Earth and it is located in the Northern Hemisphere. The climate is characterized by extremely low temperatures, poor nutrients, little to no precipitation and short growing seasons. Phosphorus and nitrogen are the two major nutrients found in the tundra. There are two types of tundra: alpine tundra and arctic tundra and both of them feature scarce human populations. Because of the low temperatures, all plants and animals in the tundra are well-adapted to the cold.
