What percent of Americans are overweight?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 69 percent of American adults aged 20 and older were overweight in 2012. Additionally, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey reported that in 2010, approximately 31.8 percent of children and adolescents ages 2 to 19 were overweight.

In its 2010 study, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that more than one-third, or 35.7 percent of adults aged 20 and older, were considered obese, and 6.3 percent were considered extremely obese. The obesity rate in American adults aged 20 and older has more than doubled from 13.4 percent to 35.7 percent between the early 1960s to 2010.
