What is the percent of trimyristin in nutmeg?
By Forinfos - 23/08/2025 - 0 comments
Trimyristin is 75 percent of a nutmeg by weight of its total fixed and essential oils and 40 percent by weight of its seed. It is the most plentiful of all the components of nutmeg. It also occurs in vegetable oils, such as babassu, coconut and palm kernel oil.
Trimyristin, or glycerol trimyristate, is an organic ester presenting as a white to yellowish gray solid. While soluble in alcohol, chloroform and benzene, trimyristin is insoluble in water. Trimyristin and its derivatives, such as myristic acid and glycerol, are used in the production of essential oils and in the soap and detergent industry.
