A person who lives to be 100 years old is called a centenarian. While some people believe that life choices such as diet and activity level can help a person to reach this unusual milestone in life, good genetics are also necessary.
As of 2012, it is estimated by the United Nations that only around 316,600 centenarians are alive around the world. Of those, the largest number of them are estimated to reside in the United States.
When a person reaches the remarkable milestone of turning 110 years old, that person is known as a supercentenarian. Even fewer people live past this point.
