How do you pet a cat?

Pet a cat using brain strokes, mouth strokes and chin ups. These petting and massage techniques relieve stress in cats and increase the bond between humans and cats.

1. Do brain strokes

   Use your fingers to gently stroke the cat’s head between the eyes. Stroke upward from the forehead and toward the top of the head.

2. Perform gentle mouth strokes

   Use your fingertips to massage both sides of the cat’s mouth in a circular motion. Massage the sides of the chin as well.

3. Soothe with chin-ups

   Use your entire palm to pet the cat from the throat to the chin. Lightly tap your fingers upward toward the cat's chin to help with relaxation.
