The Alsatian Shepalute is a large dog breed that originated in the United States in 1987. The dog is known for its gentle nature and low energy drive.

The Alsatian Shepalute was specifically bred to be a companion dog. It has a wolf-like appearance similar to the dire wolf of prehistoric times. Common traits of the animal include a muscular neck, erect ears and yellow or brown eyes. The English mastiff was used in the bloodline to give the animal a thicker build. The Alsatian Shepalute's double-layered coat repels dirt and remains odor free, but needs to be brushed regularly and maintained. They are suitable watch dogs with the right training, and they bond well with children and other animals in the home.
