An American shorthair silver tabby is a breed, color and pattern of a domestic cat. American shorthair cats are characterized by their large, cobby body type and highly social personalities. Silver tabbies are characterized by their black stripe patterns against a silver ticked background.

In addition to silver tabby, American shorthair cats come in over 80 different colors and patterns. These range from self or non-patterned colors such as black or brown to varying tabby patterns such as mackerel, classic and ticked tabby. Other patterns include van, which is colored ears and tails on a white base, or calico, which is orange, black and white patched.
