What is the average cost of caring for a horse for a year?
By Forinfos - 20/05/2026 - 0 comments
According to University of Maine, the average cost of keeping a horse was between $2,410 and $3,876 per year in 2012. Expenses can vary from region to region, and the costs of boarding and feed in the local area can impact the expenses.
An owner can mitigate costs if she boards her horse on her own property and there is sufficient graze to keep it healthy. Horses that are boarded, have chronic health problems and have special dietary needs incur higher expenses. Other costs to consider are dental care, deworming, vaccinations and farrier fees. Certain breeds and horses involved in sports may require more maintenance.
