White Chow Chows are actually cream, one of the dog breed's five color varieties. Cream Chow Chows range from ivory to butterscotch and usually have tan ears and legs. A cream Chow Chow usually has a brown nose, a disqualifying fault by American Kennel Club standards but permitted elsewhere.

The Chow Chow is a Chinese breed. DNA analysis indicates that it is one of the oldest dog breeds. It was used for hunting, herding, guarding and pulling burdens, and it has also been bred for meat and fur. Most Chow Chows are now companion dogs. The other permissible colors in the breed are red, blue, black and cinnamon. Regardless of color, all Chow Chows have blue-black tongues.
