The 882-pound tortoise is from Isla Santa Cruz but was raised in captviity. The largest free-roaming tortoise is a member of the Aldabra species residing on Bird Island in the Seychelles. It weighs over 670 pounds.
Tortoises on islands are typically much larger than their mainland counterparts. The largest mainland tortoise is the African spurred tortoise, which only weighs about 200 pounds.
