The largest volcanic crater in the world is the Toba supervolcano. The crater formed on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia around 73,000 years ago.
The explosion of the Toba volcano is thought to be the strongest explosive eruption on Earth in the last 25 million years. It was responsible for the deforestation of the Indian forests in a 300-mile radius. Nearly 900,000 cubic yards of ash was ejected from the volcano and, when it erupted, it produced a crater that is around 497 miles long and almost 22 miles wide. Today, the crater is the site of the world's largest crater lake.
