What are some pharmacist certification programs?

Pharmacists can complete many types of specialized certification programs through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties. The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators also offers a Certified Diabetes Educator opportunity for pharmacists. Work experience and successful completion of an exam are common requirements for specialized certificates.

The educational requirements to become a pharmacist do not technically involve certifications. Instead, an aspiring pharmacist needs a doctor of pharmacy degree, successful completion of the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam and a state-based exam on pharmacy laws. Certifications allow a pharmacist to increase her value to her employer, earn raises and pick up extra income opportunities.
