Pheasant hunting season in Iowa begins the last Saturday of October and ends on Jan. 10. Hunters are required to hold the appropriate license and to wear at least one article of exterior clothing that is solid blaze orange in color.
As of 2015, Iowa state hunting licenses may be obtained from license agents or purchased online. Hunters born after 1972 are required to possess a valid hunter safety certificate in order to obtain a license. Iowa residents under the age of 16 are not required to have a hunter's license but must be accompanied by a licensed adult. All birds and game animals harvested on a preserve are required to be tagged with the appropriate transportation tags.
