A fear of squirrels is also known as sciurophobia. For someone that is afraid of squirrels, being around one may cause various medical issues such as an increase in the heart rate, sweating, nausea, rapid breathing, and even fainting.
Squirrels are small rodents that are often seen in trees and on the ground gathering food such as nuts. They have slender furry bodies, bushy tails and beady eyes. They can jump from tree to tree, which possibly causes fear in someone that has sciurophobia, since he may believe a squirrel may jump down from a branch and attack him. Some repellents keep squirrels away, but squirrels sometimes find ways of avoiding them.
