What is a pike cichlid?

The pike cichlid is a torpedo-shaped fish that reaches approximately 7 inches in length. This fish is popular for use in aquariums. It can live for about 10 years with proper care.

The Pike cichlid naturally inhabits South America, primarily in the Amazon River and the Colombian, Venezuelan and Guyanan waters. This cichlid thrives the best in water temperatures between 73 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit. The pike cichlid is carnivorous and can be very aggressive with other fish in an aquarium. Due to their voracious nature, they are best kept in aquariums alone or in large enough aquariums that are at least 30 gallons.
