A pin stroke, also known as a mini-stroke or a transient ischaemic attack, is a short interruption of the blood flow to the sufferer's brain, spinal cord or retina, states Mayo Clinic. Mini-strokes are relatively short in duration and do not cause brain cell damage.
Mini-strokes produce symptoms similar to regular strokes, but the symptoms of a mini-stroke may only last for a few minutes. These symptoms include weakness in the face or arms, dizziness, pins and needles, and slurring of speech, according to Stroke Association.
Individuals who suspect they have suffered from a mini-stroke are advised to see a doctor immediately, notes Mayo Clinic. Recurrent mini-strokes are often precursors to major strokes.
