Much like the soap operas of the United States, pinoy teleserye contains many of the values that reflect the lifestyle and culture of the Philippines during whatever time frame a viewer examines the shows. An example is the portrayal of the "strong man" in these shows and the particular characteristics he tends to have, such as a mustache. This man is typically set up to be the lover and redeemer of the woman in distress.
