What are pirate ship beds?

A pirate ship bed is a child's bed that resembles a buccaneer's sailing vessel. It is intended to be both a sleeping area and play center. Typically the bed is made from wood, or plastic made to resemble wood. A mast with a pirate sail rises from the headboard.

Pirate ship beds typically have features associated with real ships. For example, the mast is topped by a crow's nest. A movable ship's wheel is found at the footer. Imitation cannons are included for pretend play. In addition, a toy box or other storage areas are included. Sometimes the bed contains built-in night lights.
