What is a pistol shrimp and a goby?
By Forinfos - 11/05/2026 - 0 comments
Pistol shrimps and gobies are two sea creatures that form symbiotic relationships to survive. A goby uses the shrimp's burrow as protection from predators, while the shrimp uses the goby as its eyes for navigation.
During the day, the goby typically hovers above the burrow of the pistol shrimp, feeding and interacting with other gobies. As LiveAquaria explains, the shrimp uses its antennae to maintain contact with the goby's tail. If a predator threatens the creatures, the goby flicks its tail to alert the shrimp to retreat into the burrow. At night, the two creatures rest together in the burrow.
