When does frozen shrimp go bad?
By Forinfos - 18/03/2026 - 0 comments
Commercially packaged frozen shrimp goes bad if it is improperly handled during shipment or if it is allowed to thaw and is refrozen. It will also spoil if it is allowed to thaw and remain in temperatures above 40 F for more than 2 hours.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against buying frozen shrimp that shows signs of frost or ice crystals, has damaged packaging or is stored above the frost line in an open freezer case. Shrimp, bought fresh and prepared at home, can be frozen for up to 3 months in airtight, freezer-safe bags or containers.
