Where do you plant blueberries?

Blueberries should be planted in well-draining soil with a pH of 5.0 in an area that gets full sun. Blueberries can grow in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 7.

The soil should be tested before planting the blueberries. If the pH is too high, lower it by adding wettable sulfur or ammonium sulfate fertilizer three or four months before planting. Conifer sawdust can lower soil pH, but it can also lead to nitrogen deficiency if it is not decayed.

The plants prefer soil high in organic matter. Till peat moss, decayed conifer sawdust or pine bark into the soil in the fall to prepare the beds before planting blueberries the following spring.
