When do you plant green beans?

Plant green beans in early spring, before the high temperatures in summer arrive. To grow green beans, it is best to choose a sunny spot with moderately rich soil. Plant the seeds 1- to 2-inches deep in soil and water them immediately.
Green beans are either a pole or bush variety. Bush beans are planted in rows, with a spacing of 4 to 6 inches between each plant. Pole green beans require a pole or tepee to grow on. The pole must be placed every 6 inches, with 6 to 8 seeds planted per pole. Water and mulch the green beans to keep the roots cool and moist. Green beans don't need fertilizer; but for healthy green beans with a high yield, it is best to add organic compost to the soil.
