When do you plant pumpkins in Texas?

In order for pumpkins to be ready by Halloween (Oct. 31), pumpkin seeds need to be planted between June 1 and July 1 in Texas. Most varieties of pumpkins need 90 to 120 days to reach maturity.
Unfortunately, if pumpkin seeds are planted too late, there is no way to rush the maturity process. Provided they are properly cared for, pumpkins keep well after harvesting.
Once planted, pumpkins need plenty of sunshine, rich soil and water to grow. Warm weather in Texas aids in an abundance of great pumpkins. Pumpkins grow better in areas with daytime temperatures of 70 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer.
