According to About.com, the diameter of Pluto is approximately 1,475 miles. Before its demotion to a dwarf planet in 2006, Pluto was the smallest of the nine planets orbiting the Earth. The diameter of its single satellite, Charon, is about half of Pluto's own diameter.

Pluto's rotation period, or the length of its day, is equivalent to 6.39 Earth days. Its orbit period, or the length of its year, is the equivalent of 247.7 Earth years. It has such an eccentric orbit that, at times, Pluto is farther from the sun than Neptune while at other times, it comes inside Neptune's orbit and is closer to the sun than Neptune.
