The poem "Forgive My Guilt" was written by Stephanie Boccia. It is about a young girl who defaces her stepsister's doll with a marker without knowing quite why she is so angry.
The speaker is 10 years old at the time that she destroys the doll. Her step-sister walks in and finds it ruined, and she is distraught. Though the speaker was glad to have gotten rid of the doll, she feels guilty for hurting her step-sister. She feels as if she was never forgiven for what she did, and she never forgets the guilt she feels. There is possible symbolism in the poem representing the speaker's feelings for her step-sister and the way in which she takes it out on the doll.
