Are police tasers safe to use on kids?

Taser International, the manufacturer of Taser brand stun guns, recommends against using these non-lethal weapons on children under 60 pounds, according to CNN. Taser users should avoid shocking children and other higher-risk individuals regardless of weight, notes the Harvard Kennedy School.

Research shows that both healthy and ill individuals could die as a result of shocks from Tasers, reports The New York Times. Tasers may injure children physically and psychologically, though there have been no child deaths as of 2015, details Huffington Post. There has not been enough research on the risks and effects of Taser shocks, explains Mark W. Kroll, a Taser International Board member, in an article for IEEE Spectrum.
