What is a pool sand bag?

Pool sand bags are often used to anchor removable stairs and ladders in above- and below-ground pools. One of the most popular styles of removable stairs, wedding cake stairs are typically weighted down to the bottom of the pool by two bags of sand weighing approximately 50 pounds.

Although many stair manufacturers recommend using sand bags for anchors, there are several other anchoring methods that may be easier and more effective. Some pool owners fill PVC piping with sand in order to minimize the chance of sand seeping out of the bag and into the pool water. Others use water weights or vinyl-coated aqua fitness weights.
