What are some popular brands of street racing engines?

The performance divisions of major car manufacturers, such as Ford Racing and Chevrolet, manufacture and sell crate motors that are suitable for street racing. In addition, tuning companies, such as Nelson, JE Imports, Roush and Edelbrock, produce tuned engines based on crate or production motors for racing applications.

Many street racers who opt for domestically produced engines opt for pre-built crate motors direct from manufactures such as Ford, Chevrolet or Chrysler or for tuner-modified versions of these engines. Domestic engines are especially popular with hot rod builders and drag enthusiasts. Most import engines purchased for street racing come from specialty import tuners or engine import businesses, as it is more difficult to secure Japanese or European motors directly from the manufacturer.
