According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Chicago has an estimated population of 2.7 million as of 2013. The city is the third-largest in the United States, behind New York City and Los Angeles.

Eleven Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in the "Windy City," with an additional 21 based throughout the suburbs. Chicago's 237 square miles include 26 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. An estimated 40 million people visit the city annually, taking in dozens of historical sites, nearly 200 art galleries, more than 200 museums and 73,000 restaurants.
